About Us

  • The original school was established in September 1994. Over the years, it grew and in September 2012 it became the Lucy Griffiths Dance and Theatre Academy Ltd.

In September 2016 The Sara Phillips School of Dancing merged with the Academy to become the Bromley Branch of The Lucy Griffiths Dance and Theatre Academy.

The Academy offers over 130 classes in Orpington, Green Street Green, Bromley and Chislehurst. Lessons are held in I.S.T.D. Ballet, Tap and Modern. We also provide Street Dance, Theatre Performance Company classes, Drama, Singing, Elite Performance Teams, Festival Squads, Limbering and Conditioning, Cheerleading and Tumbling, Melody Bear and Specialist Pre-school Classes. We also hold adult classes in Tap, Modern and Ballet and run holiday courses. Classes are available for children who have just started walking to Adult.

The Academy combines experienced and varied, quality teaching with a caring, encouraging approach. Our Academy has a family atmosphere and our pastoral care of the children is very important to us. We remember that children enjoy dancing and performing for fun and fitness. Our classes whether taken up by children purely as a hobby or to fulfil their aspirations to pursue a professional dance career, will provide your child with an opportunity to build confidence and gain vital social skills.

We believe that outstanding teaching with the back bone of ISTD dance syllabus and exam preparation, while developing the performance classes and opportunities, develops an ‘all round technical dancer’.

All pupils including our pre-school children and Adults are invited to perform in a Bi-annual show held at local theatres. Our children continue to perform in a range of local events including; Summer fetes and fairs where we have earned a reputation for the high standard of our displays.

We also enjoy yearly success in professional pantomime at Theatres in Sevenoaks, Maidstone and Chatham. We have also had achievements with the Royal Ballet, Kent Youth Ballet and the English Youth Ballet. Our Elite Performance Team pupils also dance with Mardi Gras Productions at The Sadlers Wells Theatre London, The Young Performers at Her Majesty’s Theatre in The Haymarket London. Our pupils have performed in professional West End Musicals in ‘Billy Elliott’, ‘Oliver’ and ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’. There are also opportunities for the children to perform in numerous amateur productions in local venues and theatres. We continue to have close links with local Amateur Dramatic Societies, choreographing and supplying the children for productions such as ‘Annie’, ‘Betty Blue eyes’ and ‘Carousel’ to name but a few.

Many of our older students have successfully taken up places in full time student courses to pursue a career within the Arts.
